This is a scary thought. Just yesterday while i was listening to the sermon, i asked myself the question: What the hell am i doing? Suddenly, all the mental struggle and wrestling i had the week before started to make sense. Last week at work, i had to touch on a topic which i personally do not agree with nor believe in but has been widely used as a foundation theory for a lot of the things we try to explain. You guessed it - evolution theory or Darwinism it is. Frankly speaking, if you really go into it, you will find that it takes more faith to believe in evolution than to believe in creation. Unfortunately, as man like to be king over all things (the highest species till date according to the forementioned theory) and dislike the idea of a higher Being above them, they happily rejected the straightforward answer and turned to this so called mystery, diligently trying to postulate more theories to back up the highly doubtful view that suggests that all living things existed by mere chance.
As a results, poor science academic like me are oftentimes put into a difficult position where i can't escape this well recognized and accepted so called 'origin of life' theory. Last week's lesson was inevitably found to be related to this topic. Though the explanation according to this theory was flawed and a little 'try hard', it was recognized to be 'possible' through the eyes of man. Hence students have all the rights to learn, agree and believe in it. That also means that i have to teach and explain. It was hard. It was going against my personal belief each time i explain it, however though, I always challenge my students to think and decide for themselves the validity of whatever is being presented to them. I remembered specifically that i told them that it is only a theory.
So what exactly on Sunday that has got to do with this? The pastor was talking about 'Where did we come from?' and how we are beautifully and intricately created by God. This is the message that the whole word needs to hear and not the theory which says that they exist by mere chance of mutation. Then it dawned on me that what kind of effect I may have in shaping the minds of the young? Evolution may be in the curriculum but what difference can I make? How can I make use of this great opportunity to challenge these young minds to question and think for themselves the truth and basis behind all that are being postulated. I am given the position and the platform. I am being entrusted with a great responsibility in shaping the minds of the young. I can make a difference for this Cause.
I was reminded.
I love my job... erm... i love what my job can potentially do... try again. I love what i can do through my job... No. I love what God can do through me in my job. That sounds more like it. You reckon?
It's Friday night and here I am after a 3 day week, at home with my sore and tired body. I still can't believe how unfit my body is. All i did today was 20 minutes of cardio training exercise, 10 minutes of stretching plus half an hour to an hour of badminton. Was feeling all good and actually GOOD while doing it, just to realise after lunch that I am all worn out and ready to just crash. Was supposed to go for board games tonight at Settlers' Cafe but ended up at home. Hahaha...
Bowling Tournament tomorrow morning. I hope my body can recover in time and keep up. Good sleep tonight that means. Was Deeparaya last weekend so had a 4 day weekend. It was well spent. It will be another 5 full weeks before I can take another breather when school goes on holiday. As for now till then, work will intensify and my life will get busier with more involvement both at work and in church. Finally, (haha) I am getting involved with church stuff. It's about time. Will be having our first meeting tomorrow for the Christmas Project that Terence has in mind. Pretty cool i have to say. Details to come when i have more time and actually know what is going on. HAHAHA...
